You can read more about the Coal Lines commission on the "Music Projects" tab.

This is the full 15 minute Coal Lines composition, in five movements - you can read about how the sections of the piece are broken down here.

The original Coal Lines installation featured a 45 minute interactive section, where visitors could play notes and join in with the piece by breaking light beams. The following piece is an edited down version of the atmospheric soundscape that accompanied that section of the installation. This piece includes many more snippets of interviews I did as part of the project, and in particular this version includes multiple quotes from Ken Capstick, who was Arthur Scargill's deputy in the 1980's at the height of the strikes. Ken was generous with his time and insights, and I was sorry to hear that he passed away earlier this year before he had a chance to hear this.
